Installation day is not the time to discover that the drawings are on the wrong computer or that no one has agreed which part will demonstrate the machine. A commissioning plan should cover the workshop, the people and the output you need to accept.
Before the delivery
Confirm delivery access, final machine position, floor requirements and the services specified for the exact installation. These may include electrical supply, extraction, gas, compressed air, water or coolant. Clear space for raw material, finished parts and service access. Nominate the people who will attend installation and operator training.

During commissioning and training
Choose representative jobs before the engineer arrives: a normal production part, a part near an important capacity or feature requirement, and a straightforward training piece. Check how the drawing becomes a program, how the operator loads and unloads it, and how settings and revisions are recorded. The agreed acceptance criteria should reflect the machine specification and the quality your parts require.
Training should include normal operation, the manufacturer’s safety procedures, routine checks and what to do when the process stops unexpectedly. Keep the machine documentation and support contacts where the operators can find them. Do not substitute this editorial checklist for the supplier’s formal installation or acceptance procedure.
At handover
Document the first acceptable parts and any remaining actions. Confirm who can edit programs, who authorises changes, how routine maintenance will be recorded and whom to contact for technical support. Where output depends on specific tooling, gas or consumables, confirm the starting stock and replenishment route.
