Welcome! Today, we’ll be exploring the Meyer SR32 AE pillar drill, a versatile machine with a 32mm drilling capacity. This model offers powered feed and a built-in tapping head, making it ideal for a wide range of drilling and tapping applications. Below, we’ll go through its features and functions step-by-step to help you get the most out of this machine.
Key Features of the SR32 AE
- Drilling Capacity: 32mm
- Powered Feed: Allows for smoother, automated drilling
- Built-In Tapping Head: Ideal for threading holes
- Two-Speed Motor: Offers both high and low speed, with 12 gear options in total
- LED Work Light: Illuminates the workspace for precision
Step 1: Powering Up and Controls
Once the SR32 AE is plugged in, the power light will illuminate. The machine also features an RPM readout to monitor the drilling speed. Key controls include:
- On and Off Buttons
- Emergency Stop: For quick power cut-off
- Drilling Active Indicator: This light turns on when the drill or powered feed is in operation
- Interlocking Switch: Cuts off the drill for added safety during adjustments
Step 2: Setting the Speed
The SR32 AE allows you to switch between high and low speeds and offers three gears within each setting. To set the speed:
- Activate the interlock switch on the safety guard.
- Press the emergency stop to prevent accidental starting.
- Hold the chuck while selecting the desired gear, giving it a slight wiggle to help it settle.
- Select the appropriate gear (1, 2, or 3).
- Release the interlock switch, reset the emergency stop, and press the green Go button to start.
As an example, selecting gear 3 in low speed will yield approximately 125 RPM. Switching to the two-speed motor will increase it to 250 RPM.
Step 3: Ejecting and Reinstalling the Chuck
For chuck ejection:
- Open the interlock switch and activate it.
- Press the emergency stop.
- Pull down on the handle slightly, then remove the chuck by pressing the release button as you push the handle back up.
- To reinstall, hold the handle down slightly, push the button back in, and lift the handle up to fit the chuck back in securely.
Step 4: Using the Tapping Mode
The SR32 AE’s tapping function is easy to set up:
- Switch to tapping mode using the switch on the back of the control board.
- Start the drill and feed it into the material.
- Once the tap reaches the desired depth, you can either manually change its direction to retract or bring it to the depth stop, which will automatically reverse the tap out of the material.
Step 5: Adjusting the Head and Table
To adjust the height and position of the head and table:
- Raise and Lower: Use the handles at the back to unlock, then turn the handle to raise or lower the head or table as needed.
- Swivel and Position: Both the head and table can be rotated and repositioned by releasing the locking handles. Once in the desired position, lock them securely.
Step 6: Selecting Powered Feed Options
The SR32 AE offers three powered feed rates: 0.1mm, 0.2mm, and 0.3mm. Choose the best feed rate for your material and application requirements.
